Ways to Add More Fruits and Vegetables to Your Diet

 

Most Americans aren’t eating enough fruits and vegetables.  What is enough? Recommended daily allowance is 2 fruits and 5 vegetables.

Here are a few suggestions to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet:

  1. Breakfast smoothies– a basic smoothie made with fresh vegetables or frozen fruit and protein is an option in place of processed meat and eggs.
  2. Add fruits and vegetables to each meal– Suggestion of half of your plate vegetables and the rest lean protein and occasional whole grains.
  3. Add fresh fruit on the side– choosing fruit in place of a bag of chips or cookies can make a quick meal a little healthier.
  4. Go meatless one day a week– choosing vegetables and beans in place of meat is not only good for you it gives your body a break from digesting meat.
  5. Choose fruit for dessert-Fruit can satisfy cravings for sweets without leaving you feeling bad about what you ate.

There are many ways to begin to incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your diet. It’s all about making small changes and being consistent.
